Update: Congrats to Clothes for Kids, which won our in-store Discover Wall vote and was awarded a $10,000 grant from Umpqua. Thanks to everyone who voted, and take a moment to learn about the other nonprofits in the vote: FUSION and Multi-Service Center
Here at Umpqua, we’re celebrating two big things in April: National Volunteer Month and the remodel of our stores across Puget Sound.
We’ve been working hard during the past months to remodel 19 stores (to go with our existing stores in Capitol Hill and Bellevue), and this work is about much more than a fresh coat of paint. These stores are community hangouts, a place where you can find out about neighborhood events or hold one of your own.
So, to celebrate, we’ve planned a number of volunteer opportunities to get to know our neighbors better and show our commitment to the neighborhoods we serve. Here’s what we have planned:
• Community Open House – April 15
We’re inviting the community to see what’s new at our stores and share a treat from local bakeries all day long. You can explore our Discover Wall touchscreen, which shows how we’re donating our time and volunteering in your community, and find out about local events or let your neighbors know about an event you’re planning.
• Volunteer Fair
At select stores – Lynnwood, South Hill-Puyallup, Federal Way 320th, and Proctor and Pearl Street (Tacoma) – our open house will include some terrific nonprofits from 11am to 2pm for a Volunteer Fair. You can find a project that speaks to you or chat with us about projects you’d like to see tackled in the community.
• Community Action Days
We’ll put those ideas to work during a Community Action Day on Saturday, April 23 and 30. We’ll be out working on volunteer projects in the neighborhood, and you can sign up to join in.
• Community Vote
Also, come into any Puget Sound-area store from April 25 to May 13 to log your vote for your organization of choice, and the one with the most votes will be awarded a $10,000 grant.
Our connection to the community will continue long past this month, though. When you visit your local store, ask any of our Associates about our Connect volunteer program, were we give Associates 40 hours of paid time off during their regular workday to volunteer in the community on behalf of youth or community development organizations or schools.
You can find out more about our volunteer activities and open house on our events page, and find your nearest store with our store locator. Even if you can’t make it in for one of these events, we hope you’ll stop by your nearest store soon to see all the ways we’re investing in Puget Sound.
